Reminder: Contact your proctor ahead of time!

October 25, 2007

Hi guys. Just a friendly reminder to contact your proctors a couple of business days ahead of your scheduled exam time. Make sure they’ve received your exam and don’t have any questions. (If they do, let them know that they can contact us.) This way, there will be no problems when you show up for your exam on the testing date. We don’t mind taking care of the issue right then, but we know you all are already stressed out enough as it is, so let’s make this process as smooth as possible. Anyway, good luck with your midterms, finals, projects, and assignments!

Reminder: Java Issues in WebCT

October 19, 2007

Good morning folks! I’ve had a few of you email me regarding random problems you’re experiencing with WebCT. Just wanted to remind you guys about the Java issues that we’ve seen with WebCT that could be the cause of these problems.

First thing you want to do is check to make sure you have only one version of Java running on your computer. To do this, go to Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs, and see if there is more than one version of Java and/or J2SE installed on your computer. If so, uninstall all versions, and follow the Java install instructions Qin posted earlier this year. Let us know if you have any questions. And have a great weekend!

IM a UTD Librarian

October 18, 2007

Howdy folks. I recently read about a relatively new service the UTD Library is providing to students, and I thought it might be helpful to you guys. You can now carry on an IM (instant message) conversation with several of the libraries here at UTD. They’re available for you to ask questions about any type of research you’re doing for your courses. There is a lot of information freely available to you as UTD students — you just need to know how to access this info, and this is where these librarians are really helpful. The url is below.

Scantrons and Proctored Exams

October 3, 2007

Greetings folks! Now is a good time to check and see if your proctored final exam (if your course is actually having a proctored final) requires a Scantron. If so, the best place (that I’ve found) to successfully find these are at college/university bookstores. Sometimes you’ll find them at your local stores (i.e. Walmart, Albertsons, etc.) but it’s not consistent. Scantrons are also available online through the UTD Bookstore.
